Chelsea’s first team has remained fairly unchanged so far this season, with only minor changes coming as decided by Maurizio Sarri. Those, thus far, have typically come in the attack, with Pedro, Willian and Eden Hazard often being swapped around.
However, ahead of Chelsea’s game with Cardiff City this weekend, the Stamford Bridge faithful seemingly want to see a change further down the field in defence.
We recently asked fans who they want to see start between David Luiz and Andreas Christensen. Of course, they generally won’t be on the pitch at the same time given that they both fall within the ball-playing defender type role. Luiz has, of course, started every single Premier League (PL) game so far this season, and so Sarri really appears to rate the Brazilian.
Despite this, some Chelsea fans want to see the back of him. In response to our poll, a whopping 82% of polled fans stated that they’d like to see Andreas Christensen start; with just 18% voting in favour of Luiz.
That very one-sided response is fairly easy to understand. Luiz hasn’t been at his best this season, with frequent mistakes nearly costing the Blues on more than one occasion. Christensen, meanwhile, impressed last season – and he forced David Luiz out of the team at Stamford Bridge before too long under Antonio Conte.
Whether that will happen under Sarri remains to be seen, but at least from the perspective of many Chelsea fans, now is as good a time as any to make the decision.
