It’s hard to think of Chelsea and not immediately associate the club with John Terry. For any fan born this side of the millennium, the English defender is undoubtedly one of their favourite players, with the former Chelsea captain going down in the history of the club.
When he left in 2016, then, it was a huge deal for Chelsea. He had been one of the very few constants of the Roman Abramovich regime, and so his departure left a gaping hole. He’s since spent time at Aston Villa, and he currently finds himself without a club – and now Chelsea fans want him back.
We recently made the case that bringing Terry back to Stamford Bridge would be a masterstroke from the Blues, with Terry able to fill the gap left behind by Steve Holland in the coaching department at the club.
It seems as though Chelsea fans tend to agree with us, too, given the responses to a poll on the matter. We asked Chelsea fans whether their club should move to bring him back to the club, and of those polled, a whopping 90% voted in favour. Contrastingly, just 10% don’t want him back at Chelsea in any capacity.
Clearly, then, Terry is still a very popular man at Chelsea, and with good reason. He captained the Blues through the most successful period in their history, and his performances over the last decade-plus, for both Chelsea and Aston Villa, have regularly been spectacular.
He’ll undoubtedly be back at Chelsea at some point in the future, but it seems as though for fans, there is no time like the present – regardless of the capacity.
