Newcastle's transfer business has been minimalistic, to say the least, and with the window ticking down, Mike Ashley has to deliver some more signings to Benitez.

The Spanish boss worked wonders to get Newcastle to 10th last season but if he isn't given suitable reinforcements, he may just leave the club.

The Magpies need a striker - which may be close to happening - and another two defenders if they are going to compete for the top half of the table next season.

The club are interested in signing Joe Bryan or Nicolas Tagliafico to strengthen at left-back and according to Dean Jones, are also interested in West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi.

While the defender has experience of playing in the Premier League, it's a fairly desperate move.

The Breakdown

Joining West Brom last season, Hegazi played 38 games for the Midlands club and did actually surprise a few with his strong performances for the club.

The giant defender is a colossus in the air but is also a bit of a liability with the ball at his feet and also in one on one situations.

With Florian Lejeune's injury, Newcastle do need to find a replacement for the Frenchman but they should stay well clear of the Egyptian.

Although he was impressive in spells during West Brom's time in the Premier League, Newcastle should be targeting a better class of defender. Newcastle need a defender who can take the ball out from the back and also someone more mobile.
