Flocks of pages have been floating around in the bar linking Ruben Neves to Liverpool but now Porto’s president has declared he never wants the teenage sensation to leave the club.
The 18-year-old became the youngest captain in the Champions League on Tuesday when he wore the armband for Porto’s latest group stage clash and quoted in O Jogo, Pinto da Costa declared he wants Neves to become a club legend.
“Ruben has a contract until 2019 and not until 2017, as sometimes I see in writing. And we would like to keep him at FC Porto, as a kind of João Pinto,”
“That is, he was a symbol and legend of the progress of the club for several generations. I never want him to leave Porto.”
Pinto was an iconic hero at Porto’s bitter rivals Benfica and Da Costa’s firm stance on the young teenager suggests Liverpool have a serious task on their hands if they plot to lure Neves away from the Portuguese giants.
Scousers at the bar are confident of a deal though, suggesting that Jurgen Klopp’s regime will lure the young talent to Anfield.
