Positive Feedback From Arsenal Scouts In Germany

After seeing him nurture and develop talent from both Spain and France, is Arsene about to turn his hand at mastering Germany? With experienced players Podolski and Mertesacker impressing at the Emirates and young talent coming through with Eisfeld and Gnabry, it seems that Arsene may be keen on bringing more German talent to North London.

He has started scouting Germany with a keener eye in recent times and has shortlisted Andre Schurrle and Lewis Holtby as his main targets.

Leverkusen’s Schurrle has been in good form in the Bundesliga and impressed during the Euros. Schurrle has the versatility that is required of an Arsenal player, being able to play in a wide position or through the middle. With the future’s of many stars uncertain, Wenger may be keen to get his man in January.

However, after rejecting a bid of £20 million in the summer from Chelsea, he won’t come cheap. Chelsea have strengthened greatly and have targeted Falcao as their main acquisition for January, so may no longer be keen on Schurrle. Arsene will have to raise further funds if he wishes the board to sanction such a transfer, selling those on the periphery. He will also need to monitor the situation with Theo Walcott, with the England international yet to sign a new contract.

Wenger is also reportedly keen on Schurrle’s international teammate, Lewis Holtby. The Schalke winger impressed against the Gunner’s last week and has two caps for his country. The situation is different with Holtby. He knows that there is interest from England, and would be keen.

‘I always said that my dream is to play in England and it’ll happen one day, I can tell you that, because my hunger is really big for the Premier League. But I love the Bundesliga so much and I’m happy to be here,’ he said.

His contract is up at the end of the season and can negotiate a pre-contract agreement in January. He would also suit Arsenal’s style and could be a potential replacement for Theo Walcott. Wenger may move quick and try and tie up things with Holtby as soon as the window opens, safe in the knowledge that his man will join in the summer. However, with interest from other clubs, he may need to part with some cash and go for Holtby in January. This will once again be dependent upon funds raised by selling other players.

There is no doubt that Arsene will want to strengthen in January, but as usual he will keep us guessing. Two of Germany’s stars have a decision to make, whether to continue to develop in Germany or make that career change and become stars in the Premier League.
