Positive news for Liverpool ahead of season opener against Watford

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been sweating on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge today…

The forward came off early against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, with many fearing that he had suffered a reoccurrence of his frequent injury problems – which would have been terrible news for Liverpool ahead of the start of the new season in less than two weeks.

Of course, Sturridge has frequently been unavailable lately, with a plethora of injury woes forcing his Liverpool career to a near complete halt.

However, there is reason for optimism amongst the Liverpool fans in the pub – with the Reds confirming on their official website that Sturridge was brought off as a precautionary measure, and whilst he won’t feature in the club’s next pre-season fixture – he is set to be available thereafter. As a result, he looks set to be fit for Liverpool’s season opener against Watford.

This will come as a huge boost for the Reds as they simply can’t afford to lose out on the quality of Sturridge for any more time. He’s never going to be a player that is fit for every game, but Liverpool will want to maximise his availability as much as possible.

Landlord’s Verdict

Daniel Sturridge’s Liverpool career has looked uncertain over the last year or so, with the Englishman really struggling for fitness under Jurgen Klopp. This summer, though, he has looked like he is raring to go – and whilst there was concern when we went off, the striker has generally looked in good shape ahead of the new campaign.

Not featuring in their next pre-season game is a blow, but it is clear that it could have been a far worse outcome for the striker.

Klopp will be hoping that Sturridge returns to the fine form that he enjoyed following his move to Anfield, with the Englishman bagging 21 goals that year alongside Luis Suarez.
