With a number of future England stars having already made the move to the Premier League, the next in-line seems to be Leicester City’s highly rated Liam Moore.
The 19-year-old centre back has impressed since breaking through into the first team this season and Arsenal’s scouts were at Leicester’s 1-0 victory over Blackpool at the weekend to run the rule over the youngster say the Metro.
Moore spent most of last season on loan at Bradford before ending it at Leicester, gaining a handful of appearances. It is believed that Leicester City value him at £5 million, and may consider doing business in January. However, his likely destination is unknown. In recent weeks, Manchester United have registered their interest, but now it seems that the Gunners have joined the race.
But where should he go? Both are big clubs and both have an abundance of English talent. Moore is a versatile player, able to play at centre-back, on the right or even in midfield (metro.co.uk). United already have Vidic, Jones and Smalling, whilst Arsenal have Vermaelen, Koscielny and Mertesacker. So wherever he goes, playing time will be hard to come by. However, with Arsenal’s lack of of cover at right-back, Moore may get a game there for Arsenal.
Moore is a regular with the England U-19s, and the race for Leicester City’s most prized asset will certainly be hotting up in January. Moore will develop well at either club and would work for one of two fantastic managers. So the decision will be extremely tough.
Once Vidic and Ferdinand go, Moore will face competition from Jones and Smalling. However, in a couple of years time I believe that his chance will come at Arsenal. Mertesacker is likely to move on and who knows where Thomas Vermaelen may be.
So for me Moore should make the move to North London and realise his potential. However, United are likely to pay a higher transfer fee and will pay higher wages. As we know, money talks.
