Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern finally had something to cheer over the weekend as their side got back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Ronald Koeman’s men were stuck in a dreadful run of four successive defeats in all competitions prior to Saturday’s visit of AFC Bournemouth, who looked set to extend that miserable run when Josh King gave them the lead four minutes into the second half.
However, striker Oumar Niasse leapt off the bench to net a brace for the Toffees to secure a first win since the opening day, and it is the Senegal international who is the crux of a recent report in The Sun (via The Croydon Advertiser).
And that’s because the 27-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League duo Brighton and Crystal Palace ahead of a possible move in January, news which may well frustrate several of our resident Evertonians following his weekend heroics.
The forward moved to Goodison Park back in 2016 from Lokomotiv Moscow but has found things tricky at the Merseyside outfit, appearing in just five Premier League games prior to Saturday’s late cameo.
In fact, he was shipped out on loan to Hull City in the second half of last season to underline his lowly position in Koeman’s pecking order, but goals at the KCOM Stadium as well as some for the Everton Under-23 side has seen him force his way back into first team reckoning.
Nonetheless, it remains to be seen, despite bagging a brace at the weekend, whether Niasse commands regular football once again, and it appears that Brighton and Palace are waiting in the wings in case he remains on the peripheries at Goodison Park.
Landlord’s verdict: Oumar Niasse had endured a miserable time at Everton prior to the weekend, so much so that he was sent out on loan to Premier League strugglers Hull City in the second half of last season.
However, goals for the Tigers appears to have opened everyone’s eyes to the 27-year-old’s ability, not least Toffees boss Ronald Koeman, who sent him on to change the game against Bournemouth at the weekend, which he did, and indeed Brighton and Crystal Palace.
The latter attempted to land him during the summer but to no avail, and their pursuit may have got a lot harder in the last few days given Niasse’s Everton exploits.
Thus, only time will tell whether either side can indeed get a deal done in the New Year.
