Manchester City supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side ease past West Brom 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to move 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s men went into their clash with the Baggies off the back beating Cardiff City 2-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup, thus keeping their quadruple hopes alive heading into February. And the Citizens took another giant step towards the league title on Wednesday as goals from Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, and Sergio Aguero sealed a comfortable victory for Guardiola’s side, who benefitted from Manchester United’s defeat at Tottenham to go 15 points clear at the summit.
Consequently, there have been many delighted City fans in the Tavern in the last few days, and they may be further encouraged by a recent tweet from fitness expert Ben Dinnery, which suggests that defender John Stones could be back in contention following illness.
The 23-year-old centre-back has played a key part in helping City to a 15-point lead in the Premier League this season with 15 league appearances to his name, in which time he has developed into a reliable and more solid defender under Guardiola.
However, the England international missed the 3-0 success over West Brom in midweek due to illness, yet Dinnery reports that the former Barnsley man could well make a return to the squad for their trip to Burnley on Saturday.

And this news is sure to come as a boost to Guardiola and the club’s supporters, who have seen Stones develop into an excellent centre-back this season, and one that is only going to improve in the coming years under the former Barcelona boss.
Landlord’s verdict: John Stones has improved ten-fold under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola in the last 18 months or so, and has thus played a part in Manchester City’s rise to the top of the Premier League table.
However, the 23-year-old missed their routine 3-0 win over West Brom on Wednesday night due to illness, yet recent reports suggest that the England international could well return to the squad for their trip to Burnley on Saturday.
And given how impressive he has been at the heart of their backline this season, this is likely a big boost to manager Guardiola and the club’s supporters ahead of a potentially tricky clash with Sean Dyche’s Clarets this weekend.
