Tottenham have managed to build a fantastic squad over the last few years. With smart spending and brilliant management from Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have gone from a struggling team to one of England’s most impressive outfits.
However, are they now in danger of losing one of their best talents?
Eriksen has been a crucial player for Spurs this season, and so the prospect of a departure is sure to worry supporters. Losing a player of his magnitude is always going to have an impact, and Eriksen is sure to leave quite the trail at Tottenham.
Here are THREE potential consequences if he leaves…
Daniel Levy Splashes The Cash
Daniel Levy has been increasingly hesitant to spend big on Tottenham’s squad over the last 18 months, but this summer he could have no choice.
If Spurs sell Christian Eriksen, they will have to replace him, and they can’t just replace him with anyone.
Indeed, they’ll need to buy someone on a similar level, meaning they’ll have to buy one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. And that won’t be cheap.
Levy, though, will have no choice. If he doesn’t spend big to sign a replacement, Tottenham will regress as a team.
There’s no doubt about it. Without Christian Eriksen in the team, Tottenham will be a less creative outfit. There’s no way around that. He’s their main driver moving forward, and he regularly provides goals and assists for the Lilywhites.
This will be a particular worry for Harry Kane. Eriksen has provided him with more goals than anyone else this season, but this goes beyond just Kane.
With 9 assists this year, and 10 last year, Tottenham will be losing out on one of their most influential players if they let Eriksen depart.
Of course, this may be recovered if Levy spends wisely, but will anyone genuinely be able to replace the Dane?
It’s tough to see anyone improving upon his excellent work, that’s for sure.
A Sign Of Things To Come
Will Christian Eriksen be the first of several players to depart? This has always been coming for Spurs, given their lack of recent success, and Eriksen’s departure may end up leading to even more exits.
Tottenham have improved considerably over the last few years, but they’re not yet competing for trophies at the highest level, and until that happens, they simply can’t hold on to the best players in the world.
Eriksen may be the first one, but Toby Alderweireld has been linked with an exit this week too, whilst you can only imagine what the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli will be thinking if Eriksen does quit.
This could be a warning of what is to come in north London.
