Potential Consequences: Ismaila Sarr to Arsenal

Aside from centre-backs and a replacement for Aaron Ramsey, a new set of wingers seems to be one of Unai Emery’s priorities this summer.

The Spaniard has endured a season of having only two natural wingers at Arsenal with Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan the only players who can play out-wide without too many problems, leading to fans calling out for recruitments this transfer window.

The Gunners came close to Yannick Carrasco and Ivan Perisic last January but were ultimately unable to sign either player, but now Emery has a chance to rectify his mistakes and bring in someone to fill the voids, and one name has caught the eye of fans.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal, as well as Leicester City, are interested in Stade Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr, who has been rumoured with a move to north London for some time now after a stellar season in for the French side, scoring 12 and assisting 11 in all competitions.

With a reported price tag of £25 million, what are the potential consequences of Sarr making the move to Arsenal this summer?

Iwobi’s run at Arsenal comes to an end

Alex Iwobi has had a weird Arsenal career ever since breaking into the first-team in the 2015/15 season.

The winger, at times, has been unplayable and been one of the creative and attacking driving forces in the Gunners XI, but we have also seen the Nigerian international underperform massively on too many occasions, and the signing of Sarr could end Iwobi’s time in the first-team.

The Senegalese winger’s productivity this season is miles ahead of what Iwobi has ever been able to produce, and if Sarr is to play at a club like Arsenal there is no doubt those numbers will only increase, leaving the Hale End academy product on the bench.

Kroenke makes astute signing

At £25 million, Sarr fits neatly into what Arsenal can afford with their current reported transfer budget of £40 million, and for club owner Stan Kroenke, it would be some good business for the team that improves his reputation with the fans.

The club are in need of a winger and signing someone who has had a hand in 20+ goals this season and is still only 21 is the kind of player that will make the fans excited about what’s to come at Arsenal.

Arsenal fans, will Sarr be a good signing? Let us know!
