Everton will be desperate to get the better of Cardiff City in the Premier League on Tuesday night with the opportunity to get back into the race for a European spot.
The Toffees have a lot to prove after their recent results as they’ve looked far from comfortable, with a number of defeats raising major concern at Goodison Park.
However, it looks as if the Merseyside club have their sights set on signing a defender, as according to Le10 Sport (via 90Min), Everton are interested in Thomas Meunier and have already made an approach.
Indeed, bringing the experienced international to Goodison Park would be perfect and could help the club on a number of levels, so here are the potential consequences of signing Meunier…
MARCEL BRANDS SECURES COLEMAN REPLACEMENT
Marcel Brands has already managed to help secure the services of a number of players since becoming the club’s director of football, and they’ll be relying on him to work his magic once again in the summer.
Indeed, Seamus Coleman turns 31 this year and he’s not always been at his best this season, so it makes sense to look for a replacement for the defender. Thomas Meunier is exactly the type of full-back that the Toffees could do with as he loves to get forward and has shown the he can produce goals and assists in the final third, as well as being able to provide defensive solidity at the back, so he’s very similar to Lucas Digne in many ways.
Sadly, Everton have struggled to keep things tight at the back in recent times as they’ve conceded six goals in their last three Premier League fixtures, so improvements are definitely needed at the back.
Meunier has experience in the Champions League, on the international stage and domestically at current club Paris Saint-Germain, and he’s arguably one of the best full-backs in Europe, so he could definitely help cure their problem.
He would be a vital upgrade on Coleman, as we all as upgrading their whole defence in general.
