Liverpool fans can now breathe a huge sigh of relief after watching their side come from behind to get the better of Southampton on Friday night.
The Reds once again showed that they have the grit and determination needed to go all the way in this season’s title race, but there’s still a long way to go so supporters shouldn’t get too carried away.
The former Manchester United man has gone up a couple of levels since leaving Old Trafford, so here are the potential consequences of Liverpool signing him…
FSG SECURE POTENTIAL SADIO MANE REPLACEMENT
However, FSG will need to stump up the cash if they are to sign the attacker as it’s believed that Lyon are adamant they will not entertain offers of anything less than £26 million.
The Senegalese international has been influential in the current campaign and he will play a huge part in their pursuit of silverware from here on in until the end of the season. But, seeing him depart in the summer would be disastrous and it would take a special player to replace him at Anfield.
Memphis Depay’s eight goals and 14 assists this season show that he’s transformed into a completely different player to the man who struggled at Manchester United. If he can replicate those kind of stats in the Premier League then he could be the perfect replacement for Mane this summer.
Of course, Depay’s stats are impressive at this moment in time but the Ligue 1 is no way near the same standard as the Premier League, and the Dutchman has already struggled to live up to expectations in England. Indeed, the winger has all the ingredients to succeed but it just depends whether Jurgen Klopp can get the very best out of him.
Signing Depay is a gamble that could go either way for the Reds.
