Tottenham Hotspur may be having an excellent season so far, however, Mauricio Pochettino is still going to need to make some changes to his squad by making improvements to his team.
To allow for him to potentially fund any new deals, it is likely that Spurs are going to need to have to sell some of their players in the summer and it appears one man could be on his way out of the club sooner rather than later.
According to a report by Football Insider, Pochettino has given the green light for Tottenham to offload Kieran Trippier in the summer.
The England international is not going to come cheaply for any potential suitors, as Daniel Levy is said to value the 28-year-old at £50million.
However, what would the potential consequences be should Tottenham decide to sell Trippier in the summer? Here are just some of them…
Juan Foyth put in a solid defensive display against Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend and may have given Pochettino something to think about in the future. The young Argentine may be a natural centre-back, however, given his performance, it would not be a surprise to see him adapt to the wider role and become a right-back in the future.
Pochettino’s track-record of developing the club’s youngsters is there for all to see and it could provide them with some reliability in the position, given that both Trippier and Serge Aurier have failed to do so this season.
Cash available for other additions
Selling Trippier would simply provide Levy and Pochettino with extra funds to be able to bring in some new additions to help improve their squad.
If Foyth manages to adapt to the right-back role, it would allow for Spurs to be able to have more money available to improve, for example, their defensive midfield options and finally find a suitable replacement for Moussa Dembele.
