Newcastle United supporters have been pretty frustrated in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team throw away a two-goal lead to only end up drawing 2-2 with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with the Cherries off the back of edging Manchester United 1-0 in their preceding league encounter, and they looked on course for another crucial three points thanks to Dwight Gayle’s first half brace. However, the Magpies were to be denied a precious victory as Adam Smith and Dan Gosling both struck late on to preserve a point for Eddie Howe’s men, thus leaving the Magpies just two points clear of the Premier League’s bottom three with ten games to go.
Subsequently, there have been many frustrated Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, yet they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Milliyet, which details potentially big developments in their club’s pursuit of reported target Garry Rodrigues.
The 27-year-old currently plays his trade at Turkish giants Galatasaray and has done so since the start of last year, for whom he has since gone on to net eight goals and lay on 12 assists in 45 appearances, six goals and nine assists of which have come this season.
And with four goals and six assists in his last seven appearances, the Cape Verde international is going from strength to strength, with Newcastle reportedly remaining keen on his services after reportedly failing with an offer during the January window.
Thus, if Benitez wants to land the 27-year-old wing wizard this summer, the Newcastle hierarchy will have to stump up serious cash to convince the Super Lig club to part with their in-form ace.
Landlord’s verdict: Garry Rodrigues was the subject of a bid from Newcastle during the January transfer window, only for Galatasaray to reject it and the 27-year-old to thus remain at the Turkish giants.
Nonetheless, Magpies scouts were reportedly in attendance last week to see Rodrigues net twice in a 5-0 win over Bursaspor, which wasn’t long after reports that he could be available for as little as €15 million.
Yet recent reports have detailed a big development by suggesting that Galatasaray now want €20 million for the Cape Verde international, in news which is sure to intrigue Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez, and indeed the club’s hierarchy.
Were the Magpies to remain in the Premier League, this sort of financial backing may be required, but whether they’d be willing to stump up €20 million for Rodrigues remains to be seen.
