Potentially big transfer blow emerges for Rodgers’ Celtic – report

Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their side’s return to league action this evening when their team travel to Partick Thistle, knowing that victory would take them 11 points clear of second place Aberdeen.

Brendan Rodgers’ men went into the New Year holding all three domestic trophies following their Scottish League Cup success back in November, in which they beat Motherwell 2-0 in the final at Hampden Park. Add that to their outstanding Scottish Premiership campaign last term, in which they dropped just eight points en route to a record-breaking points tally, alongside their victory in the Scottish Cup, and expectations are high around Parkhead that Rodgers’ side can look to do the same this time round, as well as enjoy success on the European stage.

Thus, there are many optimistic Bhoys fans in the Tavern at present, although they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from The Scottish Sun, which suggests that Premier League outfit Crystal Palace have joined the race for Dundee defender Jack Hendry.

The 22-year-old made the move north of the border back in the summer following a two-year stint at Wigan Athletic, and has certainly hit the ground running at Dens Park with 22 Scottish Premiership appearances for the club, bagging one goal.

And his fine efforts have reportedly attracted the interest of Rodgers’ Celtic, who are seemingly eyeing up defensive reinforcements ahead of the second half of the season, yet recent reports may convey a potentially big blow for the Bhoys as Roy Hodgson’s Palace have reportedly joined the chase for the centre-back.

And with the Bhoys ‘unlikely’ to pay the £1.5 million to convince Dundee into selling Hendry, they may well miss out on the supremely talented defender.

Landlord’s verdict: Jack Hendry only made the move to Dundee back in the summer, but has certainly proven his worth to the club with several impressive displays in the first half of the season.

As such, Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic have reportedly been interested in the 21-year-old in recent times, yet they may have just suffered a big blow as reports suggest that Crystal Palace have joined the race.

And with the Eagles possibly able to offer him more money and the chance of Premier League football, the Bhoys could well miss out on the young Scotsman.
