Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side come through serious tests against Huddersfield Town and Southampton to continue their incredible winning streak in all competitions.
Pep Guardiola’s men were made to work extremely hard for their 2-1 success over David Wagner’s Terriers on Sunday, with Raheem Sterling bagging the winner six minutes from time to maintain their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League. And Mauricio Pellegrino’s Southampton also provided a stern test of City’s resolve as an Oriol Romeu strike 15 minutes from time had cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s effort to set them on their way to a point, only for Sterling to pop up once again with a wonderful effort in the sixth minute of added time to make it 12 league wins in a row for City, and 18 in all competitions.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Citizens supporters in the Tavern in recent times, although their mood may be spoilt by a potentially concerning recent report from Don Balon, which suggests that Gabriel Jesus is a target to replace Luis Suarez at Barcelona.
The 20-year-old only moved to the Etihad Stadium back in January of this year and has certainly proven his worth to the North West outfit since then, having scored 17 goals in just 31 games for the club, ten of which have come in 20 appearances this time round.
And given that the Brazil international kept Sergio Aguero out of the side before injury earlier this year, he’s clearly very highly-regarded by manager Guardiola, and it appears that Barcelona regard him highly as well as reports suggest that he is one of four players they are targeting to replace Suarez, alongside Antoine Griezmann, Harry Kane, and Mauro Icardi.
But given that Jesus only signed for City earlier this year, it will surely take something incredibly special to lure him to the Nou Camp in the coming transfer windows.
Landlord’s verdict: Gabriel Jesus has made an unbelievable start to life at Manchester City, and is being tipped to go on and achieve great things with both club and country.
And it’s form which has reportedly attracted the attention of Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona, who are reportedly looking at Jesus as one of four options to replace Luis Suarez, who hasn’t quite hit the heights so far this season.
But with Jesus only moving to City at the start of the year, it will surely require something special to convince both him and the club to consider a deal, yet given the amount of Brazil greats who have donned the Barca shirt over the years, the young forward could well be lured by the opportunity.
