Crystal Palace supporters have been reasonably satisfied in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side edge a point closer to Premier League safety courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home with Newcastle United on Sunday.
Roy Hodgson’s men went into their clash with the Magpies off the back of drawing 1-1 with London rivals West Ham in midweek, a result which saw them steady the ship after being thumped 4-1 by Arsenal ten days earlier. And the Eagles secured back-to-back score draws on Sunday as a Luke Milivojevic penalty cancelled out Mo Diame’s opener for Rafa Benitez’s side, leaving Palace 14th in the Premier League table and three points clear of the bottom three with just 12 matches of the campaign remaining.
Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Eagles fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be thrilled by a recent report from The Times, which suggests that the injury sustained by Wilfried Zaha isn’t likely to keep him out for the rest of the season.
The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for the London-based outfit this term with four goals and two assists in 20 league appearances, adding to the seven goals and 11 assists he managed in helping the club avoid relegation last term.
However, there was fears earlier in the week that the Ivory Coast international could miss the rest of the season after sustaining a knee issue against Newcastle on Sunday, but recent reports suggest that the winger could return earlier than expected, perhaps as early as the end of March.
And given there were fears that he may not feature again in Palace’s relegation battle, this update is sure to come as a huge boost to Hodgson and the club’s supporters.
Landlord’s verdict: Wilfried Zaha played a significant part in keeping Crystal Palace in the Premier League last season, and looks set to play an equally crucial part this time round as well.
However, the 25-year-old suffered a knee injury against Newcastle United on Sunday and there were fears that he could miss the rest of the season as a result, yet recent reports have provided the Eagles with a huge boost as the injury is reportedly not as bad as first feared.
Reports suggest that Zaha could well return at the end of March, and given how influential he has been for Roy Hodgson’s side in the last 12 months or so, this is sure to delight our resident Palace fans, and perhaps concern fans of those clubs in and around the Eagles in the Premier League table.
