Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side hit form just prior to the international break with three victories in the space of seven days, two of which helping them move up to fifth place in the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s men eased past Huddersfield Town 3-0 little over a fortnight ago before comfortably dispatching Maribor by the same scoreline a few days later, thus giving them plenty of confidence and belief ahead of their trip to struggling West Ham. And they made it three wins in a week as a brace from Mohamed Salah as well as goals from Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain secured a comprehensive 4-1 victory for the Reds, a result which moved them above Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal into fifth in the Premier League table.
Thus, there have been plenty of delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in the last few days, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from Soccerisma (via The Daily Star), which suggests that they are eyeing up the re-signing of Suso from AC Milan.
The 23-year-old came up through the ranks at Anfield to earn his senior debut for the club back in September 2012, starting their 5-3 victory over Young Boys in their Europa League clash in Switzerland.
Yet the midfielder went on to appear just 20 more times for the Reds before signing a four-year deal with Italian giants AC Milan, with whom he has since gone from strength to strength with 13 goals and 18 assists in just 63 appearances for the club, seven goals and nine assists of which came in Serie A last term.
And reports suggest that Liverpool are interested in bringing the Spaniard back to Anfield, and with the futures of Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho far from certain, it’s a move Klopp may seek to get done in the coming transfer windows to minimise the impact of the likely departure of the aforementioned duo.
Landlord’s verdict: Suso endured a tricky spell at Liverpool earlier in his career, and although there were glimpses of brilliance from the 23-year-old, he ultimately wasn’t able to nail down a place in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Yet he has since proven his worth at Italian giants AC Milan, so much so that Jurgen Klopp is reportedly seeking to bring him back to Anfield, perhaps in anticipation of the likely departures of Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho.
And with Suso capable of playing in attack but also in a slightly deeper midfield role, the Spaniard could be the perfect replacement for the influential duo, and would certainly have something to prove to the Liverpool faithful following his testing spell between 2010 and 2015.
