Leeds United supporters have gone somewhat quiet in the Transfer Tavern in the last few weeks following their side’s struggles away from home.
Thomas Christiansen’s men made a sensational start to the new Championship season with five wins and two draws from their opening seven matches, but have since then lost all three of their away games at Millwall, Cardiff City, and Sheffield Wednesday.
And that run has dampened the spirits of several of our resident Whites fans lining up at the bar, although they may well be encouraged by a recent report from ESPN, which suggests that the Yorkshire giants are interested in a move for Liverpool’s Danny Ings.
The 25-year-old made the move to Anfield back in 2015 after impressing during his four-year stint at Burnley, but things haven’t worked out for the one-time England international in his two years on Merseyside.
The striker has only mustered 12 first team appearances for the Reds due to a succession of injuries, but he did return earlier this term in their Carabao Cup defeat at Leicester, and has also played four times for the club’s Under-23 side in Premier League 2.
Thus, Ings is clearly building his way back to full fitness but is unlikely to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first team plans, and as such Leeds are reportedly interested in bringing him to Elland Road during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old’s recent Championship record could be of huge benefit to Christiansen and his side, as they seek to continue their promotion push in the second half of the season.
Landlord’s verdict: Danny Ings was outstanding for Burnley and certainly deserved his move to Liverpool two years ago, but has been hugely unfortunate with injury during his time at Anfield.
However, it does appear that he is over the worse, and regular appearances for the club’s Under-23 side, as well as a substitute cameo in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, is edging him closer to regular first team action, action Leeds feel they can give him at Elland Road.
Thomas Christiansen’s men have been going through a sticky patch and may feel that more goals will be needed in the second half of the season, and given Ings has bagged 27 goals in 87 games at Championship level, he could be exactly what the Whites need as they seek a return to the Premier League.
