There have been many more West Ham fans lining the bar in the Transfer Tavern in the last week or so following their side’s return to form.
The Hammers suffered three successive Premier League defeats to open their campaign and thus increase the pressure on manager Slaven Bilic, but they responded with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town last week, and then drew 0-0 at West Brom on Saturday to move out of the bottom three.
And there may be more good news for our resident West Ham supporters if a recent report from EatSleepSport (via Football.London) is anything to go by, as they suggest that the East London outfit sent a scout to keep an eye on Danilo Pereira over the weekend.
The 26-year-old midfielder currently plays his trade at Portuguese giants Porto and has done so since 2015, in which time he has appeared in 93 games for the club, netting 11 goals in the process.
And the Hammers scout in attendance at their clash with Rio Ave on Sunday would likely have been impressed with what they saw, as Pereira bagged the opener in Porto’s 2-1 victory at the Estadio do Rio Ave, helping to maintain their 100% start to the new Primeira Liga season.
West Ham were reportedly interested in the midfielder over the summer but no deal materialised before the August 31 deadline, yet with scouts sent to keep tabs on his progress, it’s a move which could very well take place in January.
Landlord’s verdict: West Ham made some very shrewd signings over the summer, but there were also a few that didn’t quite materialise, not least the one to bring William Carvalho to the London Stadium from Sporting Lisbon.
And it appears that a move for Porto’s Danilo Pereira was also in the offing in case the Carvalho deal didn’t come to fruition, although their pursuit for the former also failed to materialise.
They haven’t completely ended their pursuit there though, having scouted Pereira over the weekend, with manager Slaven Bilic clearly preparing for the reopening of the window in January.
And if Pereira continues to impress for the Portuguese heavyweights, there’s every chance that the Hammers will reignite their interest in the New Year.
