Liverpool supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side’s 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end courtesy of a 1-0 defeat against Premier League strugglers Swansea City on Monday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash at the Liberty Stadium having not tasted defeat since the end of October, and off the back of a sensational victory over runaway leaders Manchester City just a week earlier. Yet the Merseyside giants produced a poor performance and were deservedly beaten thanks to a fine goal from Alfie Mawson, in turn clinching the Swans a vital three points in their battle to avoid relegation, at the same time denting Liverpool’s top four ambitions.
Thus, there have been several frustrated Liverpudlians in the Tavern in the last few days, yet their mood may improve if a recent report from Yahoo Sports is anything to go by, which suggests that an ‘agreement is in place’ with Monaco’s Thomas Lemar over a possible move to Anfield.
The 22-year-old played a key part in his side’s incredible run to the Ligue 1 title and the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, netting 14 goals and laying on 17 assists for Leonardo Jardim’s exciting team.
And although things haven’t quite gone as well for the France international, and indeed the club, this time round, there’s no doubting Lemar’s capabilities, and as such Liverpool have reportedly been interested in the forward for some time now.
And recent reports suggest that an ‘agreement is in place’ with the Frenchman over a move to Merseyside, yet the report stopped short of suggesting it was a done deal as the Reds have reportedly not matched Monaco’s €100 million asking price.
Nonetheless, this potentially significant development does suggest that Liverpool are very much in the race to land the talented forward in the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: Thomas Lemar was outstanding for Monaco last season, netting 14 goals and laying on 17 assists to help the club wrestle the Ligue 1 title away from five-times successive champions Paris Saint-Germain, at the same time reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
And while things haven’t gone as well this term for the 22-year-old, he has seemingly remained in-demand with Liverpool one side reportedly keen on luring the France international to Anfield.
And recent reports suggest that an ‘agreement is in place’ with the forward, although the Reds’ failure to reportedly meet Monaco’s €100 million asking price suggests that things still need resolving before a move can take place.
