Manchester City supporters have been making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern this season given their side’s remarkable start to the campaign, which got a whole lot better at the weekend with a comfortable 2-0 success at Leicester City.
Pep Guardiola’s men were tipped by many to go on and win the Premier League title this term, and they are certainly making a very strong case after recording a tenth straight league victory at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne either side of half time sealed a relatively straight-forward victory for the Citizens in the Midlands, a result which maintains their eight-point lead over neighbours Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
Thus, there have been many delighted City fans in the Tavern this term, although they are likely to be somewhat unsettled by a recent report from Don Balon (via The Daily Star), which suggests that European champions Real Madrid are lining up a mega money move for midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
The 26-year-old made the move to the Etihad Stadium back in 2015 after impressing at Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, yet he has taken it up another gear in the North West with 27 goals and 46 assists in just 107 games for the club, four goals and nine assists of which have come in his sensational start to this campaign.
And his sparkling form in Guardiola’s midfield has reportedly attracted the attention of Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, who are eyeing up reinforcements after a below-par start to the season, which sees them second in their Champions League group, but more importantly ten points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
But whether the Spanish heavyweights are able to lure De Bruyne to the Bernabeu in the near future remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Kevin De Bruyne has proven himself to be one of the best players in world football so far this season in the blue of Manchester City, with the Belgium international producing top-level performance after top-level performance for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Four goals and nine assists in just 17 appearances underlines the 26-year-old’s sparkling form in the City midfield, and it’s form which has reportedly got Real Madrid interested in a possible move in the near future.
The European champions have made a sluggish start to the campaign and know that they must improve fast if they are to challenge Barcelona for the La Liga title, but whether they are in a position to convince De Bruyne of a move to the Bernabeu is questionable, what with City motoring towards the Premier League title, as well as setting their stall out in Europe as well.
