West Ham take on Wolves tonight in what is undoubtedly a crucial game for both sides, in their quest to avoid relegation. West Ham are three points clear of the relegation zone and Wolves four points clear, so a win for either side will definitely help them beat the drop. West Ham won the previous fixture between the two sides, beating Wolves 2-0 back in August.
West Ham are on a run of four straight defeats, although they have had to play the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in that stretch of games. Scott Parker is expected to return from injury for tonight’s game and Carlton Cole is pushing for a return to the first team after being left out of the last two games.
Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola has talked about the importance of tonight’s game, saying:
“The Wolves game will be massive, a six-pointer. We have to face the match with focus and concentration, but without doing silly things.”
Wolves are unbeaten in the last two games, after winning against Burnley and drawing with Aston Villa. Mick McCarthy’s side will be keen to build on that excellent performance against Villa and is set to name an unchanged side for the seventh consecutive match.
If we look at the head to head stats between the two teams, West Ham are unbeaten in their last six home meetings against Wolves, winning four and drawing two. Wolves’ last victory at Upton Park was in 1979, their only win in 15 attempts.
Prediction: Bearing in mind the fact that West Ham have a good record against Wolves and the pressure on either side, I’m going for a draw – West Ham 1 Wolves 1.
