Liverpool are set to return from their pre-season tour of the United States today, having lost out in the final of the International Champions Cup to bitter rivals Manchester United.
Brendan Rodgers will tell you the result will have no bearing on the season – and he is right – but nevertheless, losing to Manchester United is never a pleasant feeling.
Now the focus can swing back towards the opening fixture of the Premier League season against Southampton which is now less than two weeks away.
The summer has felt particularly long for Liverpool supporters when you consider the manner in which they lost out on the Premier League title in May.
And with Brendan Rodgers being by far and away the busiest manager in the transfer market this month, it will come as a relief to many to get back to business on the pitch.
Six new signings have arrived at Anfield so far with the imminent arrivals of Spanish full backs Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno expected to take that figure to eight.
Rodgers will find himself managing one of the largest squads in the Premier League at present and there could yet be more to come!
With that in mind, we have predicted the Reds’ starting line up for the opening day of the season clash with Southampton at Anfield.
