There are just eight days left to wait until the Premier League returns to our screens and Manchester United have the honour of being the team to kick off the new season when they take on Swansea City in the lunchtime curtain raiser next Saturday.
Louis van Gaal has just eight days to bring in the reinforcements he feels are necessary after a gruelling summer which has seen him manage the Netherlands to a third-placed finish at the World Cup in Brazil, before taking over at United and overseeing their tour of America.
The pre-season could not have gone much better in all for United, with impressive victories over Roma, Real Madrid and bitter rivals Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup.
van Gaal has also introduced the 3-5-2 formation that proved so effective with the Dutch and started to implement his coaching philosophy on a group of players who dramatically underachieved last season.
Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera have joined the ranks this summer and the club hope to add more big money additions before the close of the window.
But in the meantime, van Gaal has shown he is not afraid to work with what he has already at his disposal – if giving Tom Cleverley the captain’s armband is anything to go by!
