The opening day is always important to football fans across the country, but when Tottenham travel to Upton Park next weekend for their clash with West Ham, day one of the Premier League season will take on added significance.
The 2013-14 season proved one to forget in many ways for Spurs, with big money signings failing to make an impression, heavy defeats to big rivals, and two managerial sackings.
And in and amongst the campaign – that ended in a disappointing sixth place finish – came THREE defeats to London rivals West Ham.
The Hammers did the league double over Spurs, with a shock 3-0 win at White Hart Lane, and a comfortable 2-0 win at Upton Park back in April.
West Ham even managed to ruin Tim Sherwood’s first game as Spurs boss by winning the League Cup tie at White Hart Lane 2-1 in December.
Spurs will be desperate to avenge those defeats when Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of his new side for the first time in the Premier League.
It has been a relatively quiet transfer window for Tottenham, with Michel Vorm, Ben Davies, and Eric Dier the new additions.
The most important addition will be that of Pochettino, the man tasked with getting the best out of an underachieving squad.
Here, we have predicted the starting line up for that first clash with West Ham in a week’s time.
