Premier Giants All Battling For The £10m Rated Future England Star

One of the brightest young English talents outside of the Premier League is attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester City, reports the Daily Express. Nathan Redmond has only played a handful of games for Birmingham City but the 17 year-old has made an instant impact in the Championship causing England’s top clubs to stand up and take note.

Redmond made his Birmingham debut in a League Cup tie against Rochdale in August 2010, making him the second youngest ever player to represent the Blues behind Trevor Francis.

The tricky winger has since become a regular starter under Chris Hughton. His speed, dribbling ability and powerful shot have contributed to some dazzling displays with comparisons being made between he and England International, Ashley Young.

Redmond has 2-years remaining on his current contract but, after appearing 15 times for Birmingham, a clause in his contract allows the winger to renegotiate a new deal.

Blues boss, Chris Hughton, understands the interest surrounding Redmond but feels his best interests remain at St Andrew’s so he can continue to develop his potential. Speaking after City’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with Premier League side Wolves, Hughton had this to say about the local star, “With a young player like Nathan, there is always speculation.

“He’s a young talent and would be no different to any young talent at any club. His name is going to get mentioned and he is developing well here.

In the games he’s played, you can see what he is. He is a 17 year-old player that is still developing his game with the good and bad.

“There were periods against Wolves when he was up against good Premier League players when he couldn’t get his own way.

“That’s what will happen with him. His best place to continue developing is here.”

Despite Hughton’s thoughts, the financial muscle of a Premier League club will inevitably decide where Redmond’s future lies. An initial £6m fee rising to £10m is thought to be the sort of deal that will eventually see the talented winger make the step up in level.

Liverpool will be hoping to beat Manchester City to Redmond’s signature in the same way the Reds did last month by signing 16 year-old, Jordan Ibe from Wycombe Wanderers.
