Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been crushed like a packet of old peanuts, after hearing that a move for their prime transfer target is dead in the water.
Goal quotes Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as being adamant that Senegalese international Sadio Mane will not leave in January, despite vast interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 23-year-old has shone in England but has found his future surrounded in speculation after being dropped for last weekend’s defeat to Norwich City, as punishment for arriving two hours late to a pre-match meeting.
“Mane is not in a different situation than last week. He’s a Southampton player, he likes to play for Southampton, he’s not for sale,”
“Of course I punished him because you have rules in the team, and it was a big mistake. He made his excuse to everybody and that’s not behind us. The rest is internal discussions about how to handle these situations. He will start on Saturday, no problem.”
United punters are gutted as they genuinely believed Mane would be wearing a Red Devils jersey by January, confident that the young attacker would provide a new dimension to their struggling forward line.
