Tottenham Hotspur fans are gathering nervously in the Transfer Tavern for tonight’s crucial Premier League clash against Stoke City and they’ve been handed a boost in the transfer market from a surprise source.
The Sun quotes Stoke manager Mark Hughes as admitting Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for West Brom’s highly-rated forward Saido Berahino, who looks set to finally earn himself a transfer this summer.
Berahino has made headlines in the recent transfer windows due to his desire to leave the Baggies for a bigger club and Tony Pulis has overlooked the England U21 international a number of times this season.
The 22-year-old, who is rated at around £20m, is expected to leave The Hawthorns this summer and Stoke hold interest in his services, although it’s Spurs who remain favourites for his signature:
“Spurs will always have an interest in quite a few players we are interested in. There are players out there who you express an interest in but because they are good players there’ll always be other teams involved.”
“If we’re being realistic, if a player has a choice of Spurs or Stoke, then we could pitch up and make a good case for them to come here. But they may feel Spurs is a more attractive option and we have to accept that.”
Although not directly named, our landlord definitely thinks Hughes was making remarks that concern the chase foe Berahino.
