Premier League boss selects Man City as title favourites

Manchester United v Manchester City - Barclays Premier LeagueManchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing comments from the Watford boss with the Hornets supporters and our landlord, which make for excellent reading.

Sky Sports quotes Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores as tipping City as favourites for the title– which has raised the eyebrows of our Arsenal supporting contingent in the corner.

The Spaniard’s side were 1-0 up against City until two fine finishes late on from Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero secured a 2-1 victory, keeping the Blues in third place in the league and within three points of leaders Arsenal.

City have claimed several comeback wins in various competitions so far this season and the nature of City’s comeback against Watford left boss Sanchez Flores in no doubt that the title is City’s to lose this season.

When asked if City were the favourites to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the campaign, Sanchez Flores agreed- and heaped praise upon players he formerly managed.

“Yes. I thought so in the first leg (half of the season). I keep thinking the same.”

“(David) Silva and Aguero (are the best players I’ve managed). I managed a lot of good players, but Silva and Aguero were slightly different. They were a little bit different.”

“During the season Aguero was at a high level, then he was injured for a short period. It was enough to have some doubts, maybe. But in the future, Aguero (has been) a completely different player. He is one of the best players in the world.”

City went behind to an Aleksandar Kolarov own goal after he headed Ben Watson’s corner into his own net.

However, City persevered, drawing level in the 82nd minute when Yaya Toure volleyed in a Kolarov corner to the near post and Pellegrini’s men led two minutes later when Aguero looped a header past Heurelho Gomes from a Bacary Sagna cross.
