West Brom fans in the Transfer Tavern have been getting excited about the potential arrival of a big name, with reports suggesting a late push has been made.
The Evening Standard states Tony Pulis’ side are ready to rival Zenit St Petersburg for Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, who has already been offered an £82k-a-week deal to move to the Russian outfit.
Serbian international Ivanovic has seen his first-team opportunities decrease significantly since Antonio Conte took charge this summer and an exit is likely to occur before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with close-friend Roman Abramovich prepared to approve a free-transfer as a thank you for the defender’s service.
However, it’s a different story if the veteran was to remain in the Premier League and West Brom will have to agree a deal- whilst the likes of Everton, West Ham and Leicester City are still linked with his services.
Ivanovic has spent nine very successful years in West London, with the 32-year-old winning nine trophies at Stamford Bridge – including two Premier League crowns and the Champions League.
Our landlord believes staying in England is a likely outcome in this deal, as he feels Ivanovic won’t want to relocate his family.
The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern admit it makes sense to offload Ivanovic, as it is clear the defender has no future at Stamford Bridge.
