Daily Star has got Everton fans and Newcastle fans chatting over a game of pool here in the Transfer Tavern about a young defender who could be set for return to the Premier League with one of the two clubs.
Burnley centre back Michael Keane is believed to be available for as little as £2m, causing Everton and Newcastle to both step up their interest in the January window,w ho see him as a good investment for the future as he continues to develop.
The England Under-21 centre-back is now a regular in the Burnley side and made several solid performances for in the Premier League despite his team being relegated. The defender has surprisingly scored three goals in four games so far in the Championship as he continues his good form into the new season.
Michael Keane played under Steve McClaren at Derby and now at Newcastle is hoping to rekindle that relationship, with the Magpies considered favourites to sign him in the next window but Everton are still hopeful they can strike a deal.
Everton managed to hold onto John Stones in the summer, but should Chelsea come knocking again in the next window and Everton finally agree to sell it could see them take a much more urgent approach and get in ahead of The Toon.
Our few Burnley fans over by the snooker table here in the Transfer Tavern are discussing this news, and they all admit it would not surprise them to see Keane offloaded to a Premier League club this January, as he’s been class so far this season!
