Premier League duo on Newcastle United’s wishlist

bent.jpgAfter the appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football at Newcastle United last week, Magpies supporting punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are waiting patiently to view their activity in the transfer market with increasing uncertainty over manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr.

Today’s Mirror Football gives the first indication of the names on Kinnear’s transfer wishlist by suggesting that the club are chasing Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent and West Ham United defender James Tomkins.

Manager Alan Pardew gave these names to the former Wimbledon manager before he flew to Ibiza on holiday and now progress has been made regarding both targets.

Former England international Bent has been told to find another club but the Magpies must compile a lucrative package to get him to return to the North East following a previous spell with Newcastle’s great rivals Sunderland.

Elsewhere, West Ham could sell Tomkins this summer for around £5 million with Pardew seeking extra defensive cover with Mike Williamson expected to join Premier League new boys Cardiff City.

Are these the sort of players Newcastle should be pursuing this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
