It’s been a slow day in the Football Transfer Tavern but the room has started to liven up as Brazillian wonder kid Leo Baptistao is mentioned. A talkSPORT representative stops by to tell everyone that more than one Premier League club look set to bid this January.
Both Fulham and Sunderland are ready to battle it out with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in order to lure the 20-year-old to England. Baptistao has done a stellar job of filling the void left by one of the signings of the season – Michu who left Rayo Vallecano for Swansea in the summer.
Rayo have a £6.5 million buy-out clause in Baptistao’s contract and with Martin Jol ‘keen to lower the age of his squad’, a bid could well be on the cards for a player who has netted six goals in a struggling Rayo side – a factor Martin O’Neill will consider a massive draw given the torrid time his side have suffered in front of goal thus far this season. The Black Cats only have one win in their last ten games – that’s worse than some of our punter’s record at darts and believe me that’s saying something.
O’Neill has conceded his side are in a relegation battle, stating: “Our position in the league, with a couple of teams all tight together, would suggest we are in a fight,” and he is believed to feel a player like Baptistao is exactly what the club need to get back on track.
Is it likely we will see this wonderkid in the Premier League? Do you think Fulham or Sunderland could lure Baptistao away from Spain? Vote in our polls below.
