Everton fans have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern in recent weeks following their side’s struggles on the pitch.
The Merseyside outfit went into the international break 16th in the Premier League having won just two of their opening seven league games, with their latest clash a 1-0 defeat to Burnley last Sunday.
And that loss, alongside a winless start to their Europa League campaign, has increased the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman, who is unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from The Sun, which details some intriguing information regarding the future of forward Ademola Lookman.
They report that the 19-year-old, who has yet to feature at all for the Toffees in the Premier League this season, is attracting interest from Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, little under a week on from reported interest from Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town, and Tottenham.
The former Charlton Athletic man made the move to Goodison Park back in January of this year and hit the ground running with a goal a minute into his debut against Manchester City, but that is as good as it has got for the England Under-20 World Cup winner.
He has since then managed just 11 further first team appearances for Koeman’s side and none in the Premier League this season, and his struggles for regular football appears to have alerted Wenger’s Gunners, who are reportedly lining up a January move.
And were Lookman’s situation at Everton fail to improve over the coming months, a move to the Emirates Stadium could well be in the offing come the New Year.
Landlord’s verdict: Ademola Lookman couldn’t have wished for a better start to life at Everton, netting within a minute of making his debut in their 4-0 drubbing of Manchester City back in January.
However, things have failed to pick up since then for the young forward, with just 11 further first team appearances, and none in the Premier League this season, indicative of the 19-year-old’s plight at Goodison Park.
And his struggles have attracted the interest of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal, who may well be planning for a future without the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, and Theo Walcott in their attack, and thus could see Lookman as someone who can fill the void for many years to come.
Everton are unlikely going to want to part with the highly-rated star, but the man himself may seek a move if his situation remains the same in the months leading up to January.
