It comes as no surprise to Leicester City fans in the Transfer Tavern that reports have revealed their top scorer is determined to maintain his impressive goalscoring form for the club.
An article from TalkSport has reported that the Foxes’ in-form frontman, Jamie Vardy, is keen to maintain his goalscoring heroics in order to improve his chances of representing England in Euro 2016.
The 28-year-old, who broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record for scoring in 10 consecutive games, scored at the weekend in Leicester’s 1-1 draw with top-flight giants, Manchester United, to snatch the majority of the footballing headlines.
Although Vardy’s stunning run of form has led many people to tip him for a place in next year’s Euro 2016 finals, Vardy insists there is still a lot of work to do.
Our resident Leicester City fans here inside the Transfer Tavern have been in dreamland for months on end, in what is turning out to be a fairytale season so far the Foxes.
Our landlord here in the Tavern feels that Claudio Ranieri is an absolute genius, and has well and truly revitalised the club from relegation fodder, to top four contenders in the Premier League!
Speaking on the Hawksbee and Jacobs show, Vardy said:
“It is all down to me. If I let my performances drop, then that is giving a reason for me not to be involved,”
“If I can keep the performances up for the rest of the season, then I am putting myself in with a good shout.”
“There is a lot of talent in the lower leagues but people are not willing to take the risk and the chance that the likes of myself and Chris Smalling were given,”
“Instead of spending millions and millions on players that still might not do it you can take the risk on a non-league player and they can progress well. Luckily for me personally, Leicester took the risk.
Vardy is currently the only Premier League player to score in 11 consecutive games and will be hoping to stretch the record further against Swansea at the weekend!
