The Everton fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are is somewhat of a daze after manager Ronald Koeman took their already unprecedented summer of business to another level having engineered the return of former boy wonder Wayne Rooney to Goodison Park after 13 years at Manchester United.
However, it seems that the former Southampton manager has no time for sentiment and is not slowing down, with Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol claiming that the Toffees manager has moved swiftly on to a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
The Frenchman was on hand for the Gunners whenever called upon from the bench last season, however, the fact he was rarely named in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI was a source of frustration for the 30-year-old.
While, then, a deal may seem benificial for both parties, Wenger has made it clear just how much he values Giroud, regardless of who arrives at The Emirates this summer.
There are some from the blue half of Merseyside here in the Tavern that are glad of Wenger’s reluctance to sell up, concerned that an attacking duo of Rooney and Giroud would simply lack the pace to break the top six in the new season.
