Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have angrily congregated around the pool table to rant about comments from one of their stars, as they feel he’s flirting with an exit from the club.
The Daily Star quotes Saints stopper Fraser Forster as been thrilled with transfer links to Premier League giants Chelsea, who will be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer amidst concerns regarding the futures of Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic.
Forster has excelled since moving south of the border from Celtic and has established himself as England’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Manchester City’s Joe Hart and, at 26, there’s plenty of time for him to stake his claim for the number one jersey.
Naturally, top performances have led to top clubs eyeing his services and Forster, whilst saying such links are compliment, insisted he has his eyes focused on Euro 2016 and not a summer transfer.
“I think it is a compliment in many ways because if you are being linked with teams then you are obviously doing the right things.”
“I have two years left on my contract at Southampton and I have loved my time here. I can’t thank the club enough for the way they have stood by me when I was injured.”
“I’m just concentrating on the day-to-day business here at the club and then hopefully I can have a good summer with England.”
Our landlord feels staying with Southampton is the best course of action for Forster for the time being, although he believes he should move to a big club next summer if the Saints don’t improve on their standings.
