Speak to Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern and you’ll find they won’t have a bad word to say about this former striker of theirs and as they sip their pints this afternoon, they’re debating whether he got a fair shot at glory.
Bournemouth’s newest star Benik Afobe is preparing to clash with the Gunners for the first-time this weekend, after proving himself in the Premier League after a record-breaking £9m deal saw him sign for the Cherries.
Since getting his chance at the top-flight, Afobe has scored three goals in as many games- which has raised questions as to whether Arsenal were right letting him go. Whilst Afobe admits he would have loved to make it in North London, he insists he holds no grudges and has nothing to prove this weekend.
“I have nothing to prove to Arsenal. It was their decision to sell me and I have moved on.”
“It was years ago now but I still have some great friends there and nothing bad to say about Arsenal. I would like to have had my chance but that’s not how life works, not everything goes your way.
“I am here in the Premier League now, scoring winners. I am enjoying it and just want to keep improving.”
Afobe’s Bournemouth may be hosting the Gunners at the perfect time, with Arsenal having gone four Premier League games without a win and they’ve failed to score in any of their last three- which has left their title hopes hanging by a thread.
Our landlord has put a few quid on Afobe netting against his former side this weekend and reckons the youngster can end Arsenal’s title hopes.
