A rumour spreading in the Football Transfer Tavern last week was that Villarreal centre-back Mateo Musacchio has been targeted by a host of Premier League clubs with a view to a possible January transfer.
However Sky Sports now suggest that the La Liga outfit have told potential interested parties that it would be pointless making an offer for the 23-year-old unless they match his €50million release clause.
The Argentine defender is regarded in the tavern as one of the finest young talents in the game and has reportedly attracted attention from several top European clubs.
Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with the centre-back in recent weeks, while Barcelona and Napoli are thought to be keeping tabs.
However, he has a long-term deal with Villarreal and club president Fernando Roig says they will only consider letting him go for the right price.
“Musacchio has a contract until 2018, therefore he will be here for four more years,” said Roig.
“If someone wants to come and pay what he is worth, then we will talk.
“For the player to leave, it depends on three parties, not just one or two – he has a contract.
“If he is wanted, then for Villarreal it is fine, but only if the money is paid up front.”
