Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen their hopes of securing a top-class signing this summer to bolster their attacking line shattered, with one of their top-targets ruling out an exit from his current employers.
The Daily Star quotes Leicester City ace Riyad Mahrez, who was recently crowned PFA Player of the Year, as confirming he would remain with the Foxes for their title defence and European quest next season.
Algerian international Mahrez has attracted some of Europe’s biggest names with his performances this season, including the attention of hometown club Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish giants Barcelona, but when asked after Leicester City lifted the title on Saturday if he was staying at the King Power, he replied:
“Yeah, yeah. I am very happy and very proud to have this trophy. Some things are just amazing.”
However, last week his agent suggested a transfer could be on the cards as he said:
“He’s happy at Leicester but at his age, if the opportunity comes to play for a big team then we would have to think about it. I’d say it’s 50/50 at the moment whether he stays or goes.”
Our landlord is still convinced Mahrez will move on if the right offer comes forward but he isn’t certain Leicester’s asking price will be met.
