Leicester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have barely slept all week, as they fear they’ll wake up from the best dream they’ve ever had, but the talk in the bar has turned away from their unexpected success to some big transfer talk.
Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport state Claudio Ranieri’s side are expressing interest in capturing Christian Benteke from Liverpool, who seems set to leave Anfield after just one season at the club.
The Belgian international has failed to impress on Merseyside following his staggering £32.5m move from Aston Villa last summer, a fee that made him Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing in history, and the Reds will cut their losses at the end of this term.
Whilst he’s struggled at Liverpool, it’s his form from his previous spell with Aston Villa that makes him appealing to the surprise Premier League champions- although they could face competition from West Ham for the player’s signature.
Our landlord believes Benteke would be a solid signing if Jamie Vardy was to leave, although it all rests on whether the forward can recapture his previous form.
Leicester fans, would Benteke be a smart signing or a waste of money? Let us know in the comments below!
