As if English Football hasn’t got enough exciting, thrilling and unbelievable players but fans are still wishing that footballing stars from other parts of the world would join the Premier League party.
This article compiles the Top 10 footballing stars that ply their trade outside of England but that Premier League fans would love to see in their team.
The obvious choices of Ronaldo, Messi and Iniesta go without saying when looking at star players from overseas, so without these stars clogging up the list here are the Top 10 most wanted overseas stars;
1. Fernando Llorente – Athletic Bilbao
This guy seems to be tailor made for the Premier League. The Athletic Bilbao striker has been linked with the Premier League all summer after his clubs run to the Europa League final last season. His dominant displays against Manchester United last season brought him to the attention of many Premier League fans and many will be hoping he will be heading to England in the near future.
He’s a big fish in a small pond at Bilbao, quite literally as well as he has a huge presence in the air and great feet for a big guy so he would be perfect at spearheading the attack of many Premier League sides. It is looking likely that he will be leaving Bilbao in the next season or two and English football would be very welcome to his services.
2. Radamel Falcao – Atletico Madrid
Colombian striker Radamel Falcao is one of the worlds top goalscorers and would be a dream purchase for any Premier League side because he guarantees the most valuable asset in football, goals. His performance against Chelsea for Altletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup this season was spectacular and showed that he is the complete striker. A first half hatrick helped Madrid to a 1-4 victory and showed his predatory instincts in front of goal. He’s a poacher at heart but can score with both feet and is phenomenal in the air. He took the Chelsea defence apart in that match so if Falcao ever did arrive in the Premier League it would certainly be a mouthwatering prospect for the fans.
3. Gerard Pique – Barcelona
When Sir Alex Ferguson let Gerard Pique leave Manchester United in 2008 for him to return to Barcelona, little did he realise that the Spaniard would become one of the worlds top defenders. As a key cog in the Barcelona trophy winning machine, Pique has proven himself as a top quality defender with great composure on the ball and imposing strength. What would Sir Alex give to have Pique back at Old Trafford now considering his sides current defensive frailties. He’s a player that any Premier League manager or fan would love to have.
4. Daniele De Rossi – Roma
He’s the embodiment of Italian passion and his full on enthusiasm for the game has brought Daniele De Rossi a reputation as one of the top central midfielders in Europe. In the era of players with more technical ability than physical strength in the midfield, De Rossi brings both of those attributes together and would be a fantastic addition to the Premier League. His unerring passion and desire would quickly endear him to the fans if they weren’t already in awe of his talents. He’s a top player that would be a perfect fit for English football.
5. Hulk – Zenit St Petersburg
There can’t be many Premier League fans that wouldn’t want to be cheering on Hulk week in week out. The whiff of pantomime about his name first brought him to the attention of the media but he has since backed up his imperious nickname with some truly destructive performances for Porto. The Brazilian is probably the beefiest forward in world football and his incredible strength has made Hulk such a fearsome striker/winger. With his sometimes unstoppable shooting power and blistering speed, Hulk really is quite incredible. Although his recent move to Russia means that we may not ever see him in Premier League he is still a much coveted forward that could really do some damage in England.
6. Joao Moutinho – Porto
This midfield maestro was very close to becoming a Premier League player in the summer as Andre Villas Boas just missed out on taking him to Spurs. It was a disappointing moment for AVB and also general Premier League fans as this Portuguese midfielder was one of the stars of Euro 2012 and is the beating heart of the Porto team.
He’s a playmaker with great vision and the ability keep the ball moving from box to box effortlessly. He would be an integral part of any Premier League side and his tireless efforts would make him a fans favourite. Let’s hope that he finally lands in England in the upcoming transfer windows.
7. Neymar – Santos
It’s a bit of no-brainer this one as Neymar is undoubtedly the hottest prospect in world football at the minute. This forward has enough tricks to bamboozle Derren Brown and a quite incredible scoring record at just 20 years of age. 49 goals in 96 games for Santos shows that Neymar could rival the bewildering goalscoring feats of Messi and Ronaldo in years to come and could even challenge them in the world player of the year standings.
The Brazilian is getting ever closer to an inevitable move to Europe and the Premier League could well be his final destination after it was rumoured that Neymar was learning English in preparation. This guy is the next big Brazilian superstar and there are many Premier League fans who are hoping that he chooses England when he leaves Santos.
8. Klaas Jan Huntelaar – Schalke 04
You don’t get the nickname ‘The Hunter’ without being a prolific goalscorer and Klaas Jan Huntelaar is a player that is lethal in front of goal and hence why he is the desire of so many Premier League fans. Standing at 6ft 1in, he certainly has the physicality to trouble defences in the Premier League and his career league ratio of 190 goals in 290 games is quite phenomenal. it’s no wonder then that Huntelaar has been linked to so many English clubs over the past few years as he could do just as good a job as fellow Dutchman Robin Van Persie.
9. Wesley Sneijder – Inter Milan
The star of Hollands magnificent run to the 2010 World Cup final and regarded as one of the top attacking midfielders in the world. With his incredible vision and passing range he was also an integral part of the Inter side that won the Champions League in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.
He is yet another Dutch footballer with outstanding technique and he is pretty good with a dead ball aswell. Chipping in with the odd few goals aswell makes him the complete playmaker, he can turn a good team into a great team and could soon be fulfilling fans wishes as his time at Inter seems to be drawing to a close.
10. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Paris St Germain
He is the most expensive footballer ever in combined transfer fees after totting up an incredible €180million and yet he has not graced the Premier League with his talents so far. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been one of the top strikers in Europe for a number of years and is highly regarded for his strength and control with his back to goal and not to mention his often flawless technique. He really is a powerhouse of European football and simply unstoppable on his day.
Bringing others into play by holding up the ball and finding the net regularly with pinpoint accuracy combined with a powerful strike. Ibrahimovic is a true titan of a striker and any Premier League team would be lucky to have him.
