The hardest thing in football is sticking the ball in the back of the net. With this in mind, January could see a flurry of activity regarding the services of Hapoel Tel-Aviv hotshot Itay Shechter. With a whole host of clubs interested in his signature, the 23 year old is wanted by Celtic, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton. With interest from his countryman Avram Grant at West Ham last month, his recent form in Europe and domestically have set scouts on red alert throughout England and Scotland.
The question is where should he go? A price tag of £3 million has been slapped on the youngster, admittedly unproven in an elite league but still with a prolific record, so who remains interested? Liverpool and Everton could certainly do with the help in front of goal, Spurs are interested in just about anybody and Celtic appear to be keen to add to their own squad, and Shechter could be a cheap answer to the striking problems that seem to be affecting most clubs at the moment.
In contract until 2013/14, the Israeli club may hang on for as much as possible. Things could get ugly, so watch this space…
