The Daily Mirror are reporting that Nottingham Forest are looking to sign Premiership full back Gareth Bale – of Tottenham – and Nicky Shorey – of Aston Villa – for £3 million apiece when the transfer window opens next month.
Shorey has spent part of this season on loan at Forest following a poor spell with Villa after he signed for them from Reading and has impressed in the Championship, leading to Forest boss Billy Davies looking to secure a permanent move for the 28-year-old who is definitely out of favour at high flying Aston Villa.
And also at the top of Davies’ wishlist is 20-year-old Bale who is used sparingly by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp with Benoit Assou-Ekotto the Premiership side’s first choice left back. Bale’s Tottenham career has been blighted by injury and bad luck and reports claim that the North London club are ready to give up on the Welsh international and, whilst many teams including European giants are interested, Forest fancy their chances of bringing him back down to the Championship.
Forest have outdone all expectations so far this season and find themselves currently occupying a play-off place with an automatic promotion spot still a possibility if they can continue their good form over the remainder of the season.
