Although Brazilian left-back Marcelo has been something of a revelation for Real since Jose Mourinho took over, seemingly putting an end to conjecture about further recruitment in this area, it seems that the old adages have returned, and that the Bernabeu bandits are back in the market once again.
Top on their poaching list this time is apparently Patrice Evra. According to Spanish website “Fichajes”, the United player has recently expressed his intention to leave “the discipline of Old Trafford”, and could link up with former teammate Ronaldo in Madrid next summer.
However, “el diablo rojo” is not the only Premier League name on Real’s radar. Another possibility, another Frenchman; Arsenal’s Gaël Clichy had apparently been earmarked by Madrid last summer as the solution to their left-back dilemma, until Marcelo made the role his own.
Kieran Gibbs has also been mooted as a potential target: perhaps Mourinho’s scouts watch a lot of Arsenal matches?
In any case, no move is likely until the summer transfer period, giving Ferguson and Wegner plenty of time to secure the services of their respective players, and round up their herds before los Bandidos come to town.
