Preston lead January chase for Manchester United midfielder

PowellManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the weekend discussing potential incoming payers this month but the conversation has quickly switched to those that could leave Old Trafford.

Whilst sipping their pints of bitter this afternoon and enjoying a round of darts, the discussion has surrounded one youngster who is braced for an exit this month.

The Sun state Manchester United are ready to loan Nick Powell to a Championship club until the end of the season, with Preston North End leading a six-club race for his signature.

21-year-old Powell has made two appearances for Louis Van Gaal’s side since recovering from injury and is keen to experience more regular first-team football, as he aims to prove that he is deserving of a new contract at Old Trafford.

Powell is out of contract in the summer and has a challenging few months ahead to prove himself worthy of a new deal, with a drop to the second-tier providing him with an excellent chance to do exactly that.

United fans in the bar are declaring that this is the perfect move for Powell, believing he needs the chance to impress with regular chances in Van Gaal’s first-team unavailable at this time.
