The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jurgen Klopp to resolve his side’s goalkeeping issues. The duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have done little to suggest that they are ready or able to contribute at the highest level, and so this spot is proving to be a real problem area for the Reds.
Reports emanating from the Sun, then, suggesting that a move for Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson could be off, have concerned our resident Reds – and it’s pretty easy to see why. Indeed, whilst his price-tag might be high, our landlord thinks that he could be the perfect solution.
A Brazilian international, Alisson has emerged as one of the finest goalkeepers currently playing in Europe. He’s a jack of all trades, with no clear weaknesses – and the same certainly can’t be said for the options currently available to Jurgen Klopp. A fantastic shot-stopper, Alisson is also comfortable from set pieces, whilst his ability when the ball is on the floor by his feet is also second-to-none.
He’s been in great form for Roma this season, who are currently on course for a top-four finish, and his consistent goalkeeping has been crucial to their success. Indeed, Chelsea saw what he was capable of in Europe this season as he flourished against their deadly attack.
At 25-years-old, he’s also a player for the future, not just the present. Undoubtedly one of Europe’s best and most improving goalkeepers, this move would carry little risk.
Indeed, the prospect of needing a massive bid could be putting Liverpool off, but the Brazilian could be the final piece in Jurgen Klopp’s puzzle. If he brings him in, Liverpool will have no obvious weaknesses, and there is no doubting that they will be genuine title challengers at that point.
