The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been pretty glum over the last few weeks…
The Saints have been on a pretty rough run of form as of late, with Claude Puel’s side now struggling down in 13th place in the Premier League.
Their poor form has been made worse by the occurrence of a number of injury issues, most notably to Virgil van Dijk. Arguably Southampton’s best player this season, van Dijk was recently ruled out for at least 2 months – much to the disappointment of the Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern.
Now might be time for the Southampton fans in the Tavern to look away, then, with reports emerging from the Daily Mail suggesting that Virgil van Dijk’s injury could be worse than first feared.
The Daily Mail are reporting that there are fears at Southampton that van Dijk could have played his last game this season, with Sports Mail understanding that he has told friends that he is unlikely to feature this season.
This has come as a huge blow to the Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern, with van Dijk a fan favourite amongst the punters in the pub.
This news, of course, follows a poor few weeks for the Saints. Unable to get a decent run of form together, Claude Puel has a lot of work to do – and this problem is only likely to worsen their woes. With problems on the pitch, it is down to the staff to ensure that they don’t continue to pile up even more.
It’s not all bad news on van Dijk’s end though – with a report from the Sun recently suggesting that the Dutchman could stay at St Mary’s beyond the end of the season.
